Player Report: 7-foot JT Rock (2024)

JT Rock | 2024 | Post | Sioux Falls Lincoln HS (South Dakota)

JT Rock is one of the top prospects in the 2024 class. At 7’0 tall, he commands a lot of attention on the court and from the college coaches that are recruiting a big… which is every school. His recruitment has picked up this high school season and will only continue to climb as his game continues to develop.

Rock is a tremendous rim protector and defensive game-changer in the post. He has good instincts to block shots and alter the opposing team’s offense anywhere in the paint. He’s long and has a good IQ on how to block or contest shots. We’ve been impressed with his progress on defending outside the paint — this is the development of his game that will increase his stock. He is guarding smaller players on the perimeter and showing the ability to stay in front of them and close the gap with lateral quickness as the player makes a dribble-drive.

Rock has some nice throwback post moves with his jump hook and drop-step to a dunk. They are reliable and effective. His ability to shoot the ball at a high level is another reason his stock is climbing. He has a fadeaway move in the mid-range and he can shoot it from the 3-point line. His jumper is fluid and is able to catch-and-shoot on fast breaks or the pick-n-pop. We can tell that he’s been in the lab working on his ball-handling… things are getting to be a bit tighter and he’s showing more confidence in handling the rock.

Rock will be running with South Dakota Attack this AAU season. He’ll be a hot recruiting target for a lot of schools this spring and summer. He currently holds offers from: Iowa State, South Dakota State, Creighton, Nebraska, and Wisconsin.
