Program Look: South Dakota Attack

South Dakota Attack has been one of the top programs early on in April on the RecruitLook Hoops Circuit. They are a quality program with a few division 1 prospects on their rosters. You can’t start a conversation about SD Attack without bringing up 7’1 stretch-center JT Rock. This 2024 big has come off a great season with Sioux Falls Lincoln and is the type of modern big man that every major college wants. A developing three-level scorer at over 7 feet will certainly get noticed, and rightfully so JT holds multiple high-major offers, including Iowa, Nebraska, Creighton, Wisconsin, and Iowa State — all schools have been in to watch him this AAU season. It’s hard to find a player of his size that can score in the ways that he can, play the pick-and-roll and make the right reads, and be a stout defensive presence down in the low post.

The other prospect that are showing out for SD Attack comes from their 17’s in Isaac Bruns. He is the younger brother of a division 1 player and currently holds a few division 1 offers himself (North Dakota & South Dakota). I was very impressed with his ability to control the tempo of the game this AAU season. I really like his ability to shoot it both off the dribble and off the catch, making him a capable scoring threat from anywhere on the floor. He just led his Dakota Valley team to an undefeated state championship this spring as well.

As a whole, I really liked how the SD Attack 17’s played with each other this year. They have a really quick guard in Taylen Ashley who is a great athlete and dangerous scorer in his own right. Kaden Year (2023) is another valuable piece to this team, he has a good frame at 6’6, and can also shoot the three well. Year is a high IQ stretch-4 type at the next level. A couple of other guys to monitor in the Kansas City Live Period April 22-24 are 6’5 Porter Ihnen and 6’4 Jacob Mehrman. Both have been key contributors with high upside.
